Zhu drops the Generationwhy album.
Is it me or are you also confused as to whether Zhu is a single producer or a group? Yeah me too. Either or, the debut album from Zhu has arrived and it’s probably one of the best pieces of work I certainly have heard in such a long time, with ‘Generationwhy‘ holding such a unique sound, yet fusing this with some beautiful elements.
Before the album was released we had a number of singles. These came in the form of the title track ‘Generationwhy‘ which got a world premiere from Zane Lowe on his Beats One station, before the kikes of ‘Palm Of My Hand‘ and ‘Hometown Girl‘. Another noticeable one on the album was ‘In The Morning‘ which got a release about five months before the album landed. However fourteen tracks have arrived and prepare to be blown away by this.
The album as a whole could very easily be identified to Zhu for the simple reason that it reeks of that sound which has been produced time and time again. The electronic vibes mixed in with the piano melodies and the airy vocals is just absolutely beautiful, and the layers then of the drums and the guitars just make each track so good.
Stand out tracks include ‘Electrify Me’ which goes for the upbeat piano melody ridden style, with the deep synths flowing through. ‘Numb’ is a little more down tempo, with those iconic vocals flashing up through the track once more, fitting in beautifully with that deeper style. And probably my favourite track of the album does come in the form of ‘Hometown Girl’, the guitars in this one are just stunning. Quick mentions also go to ‘Money’ and ‘One Minute To Midnight’.
Well worth a listen, Zhu has produced an absolutely stunning album with ‘Generationwhy’ and it could very easily be up there as one of the albums of the year. You can download your copy of ‘Generationwhy’ here.
