Nat Dunn and Nicky Night Time came together and have formed a brand new duo NAATIONS, a project which they have been teasing for a little while now. They have recently released their third official single ‘Alive’ which has been received and supported extremely well by the dance music community. And the duo are gearing up for bigger and better things over the next while with plenty planned. This is why they have made it as the first artists on our Talent Watch series. Keep an eye out for their names.

NAATIONS has been a project which has been around for a little while, but both Nat and Nick only made it official in the last month or so. Tell us a little about how you both met?

(Nat) – We have a mutual friend, and Nicky saw me singing on that friend’s Instagram randomly! Nicky asked if he could do a session in the studio with me through our friend and then we got along like a house on fire. That was almost two years ago.

I guess there must have been quite a bit of musical chemistry between the two of you to join together and begin to make tracks?

Absolutely! It was instantaneous. We managed to write three tracks or the bones of them the first day so yeah you could say we have an artistic connection.

Would you say there are any musical influences that have had a big part in your musical journey to date, in the music you are interested in, the music you produce, etc?

(Nicky) – Yeah, I guess a lot of my music influence stems from the UK rave scene from the 90s and the soul and reggae part of European culture. Obviously dance music in general but more of a pastiche of the past.

Your track ‘Alive’ has just been on the scene a matter of weeks ago and the support which the record has gathered has been outstanding. For you both as NAATIONS, to receive such support, it surely must encourage you to enter the studio?

We are always pretty much in a studio of some kind every day, even if we like it or not!

The track has those piano melodies running through, with an almost Drum N Bass feeling to it when it drops, and the mixture of this production with Nat’s vocals is outstanding. Was this the kind of style you were hoping to go for?

There wasn’t particular style more of an emotion we wanting to convey that was in our heads.

Regarding the production side of things, is it relatively easy to work with each other?

Yeah, we tell each other what we like and don’t like about what’s getting laid down. We are pretty honest like that and tends to get the best results

On to the future, and NAATIONS have already played at Brixton Academy in London, while a huge show for UK festival South West Four has been confirmed. Are there any significant dates or festivals which NAATIONS are particularly looking forward to?

We have a lot of exciting dates coming up, especially in Europe over the summer which will be announced soon!

And on a musical front, can we expect to see more new music from the duo over the coming months?

100% !! We have some remixes about to drop of Alive plus some pretty special collaborations coming out. We are so excited to share our future singles that will be out towards the end of the year!

Lastly, what is the big ambition, the big aim for NAATIONS over the next year or so?

Just to release our music onto the world out there and get in front of people and let them hear it live !!!

You can download the new track ‘Alive’ here.
