There are not many artists who you can say has operated and continued to stay as relevant in an ever changing scene. Gabriel & Dresden are a duo who have done just that, delivering some of the best tracks in the Trance scene. Now they have returned with a brand new twelve track album, ‘The Only Road‘, on Anjunabeats. And it is simply wonderful.

Gabriel & Dresden have released an album which borders a number of different genres, touching on many different sounds, but certainly stay true to themselves. Bringing in the sounds of Progressive House, Trance and Electronic, all make a real impact on ‘The Only Road’, and you can see exactly why this has worked on Anjunabeats. The album also happens to be the duo’s first in eleven years, so this one has taken time, but it has certainly been worth the wait.

A number of singles had been delivered before hand via Anjunabeats, with the release of ‘You’, ‘This Love Kills Me’, ‘White Walls’ and also ‘Waiting For Winter’. With the release of these singles, it has given us a fair idea of what to expect, but hearing all of the tracks together, it provides a magical moment indeed.

The title track, ‘The Only Road‘, is the perfect way to start the album. It leans towards the more progressive nature, taking you on a journey you simply will not forget. The way in which you drift through the track with the dreamy melodies and the soothing bass line is just wonderful. And when you bring the vocals of Sub Teal to the forefront of this track, it’s just something you will fall in love with. However this track is a contrast to the likes of ‘This Love Kills Me‘, which leans towards the heavy Trance sound. You feel the harder bass with this one, and the energy pours out of the track.

Underwater‘ is another stand out track on the album, bringing something really different to the sound of Gabriel & Dresden, with a slower tempo. It has a stop / start approach to it, as the track breaks and then hits hard, before stringing off once more. The vocals of Jan Burton is a huge part of the track, and both mix in together brilliantly. Other stand out tracks include ‘Over Oceans’, ‘Jupiter’ and ‘Sequoia’, all showcasing the sound of Gabriel & Dresden. This new album from the duo is a masterpiece, ‘The Only Road’ is a must listen.
