Flume has become one of the stand out artists over the last few years who has grown into a powerhouse producer, with so many artists on the scene looking to collaborate with the artist, as well as looking to follow his Future Bass sound. The pioneer has since been working hard and has just dropped his latest album ‘Skin’.

The first hint of ‘Skin’ came around January as Flume teased in an interview that we would be seeing a new album in 2016, and he has certainly not disappointed. Hyping up the crowds and fans, he dropped the major single ‘Never Be Like You’ which gained credit and support all around the world, the first single to arrive from the album and this set the tone for the rest of the album. Following this was ‘Smoke & Retribution’ which is a personal favourite which features Vince Staples and KUCKA on vocals, and it brings those Future Bass sounds to the fore with a hint of Hip-Hop included.

Other singles included the more recent ‘Say It’ which is a stand out single and stands on it’s own to the rest. Also following was the track ‘Lose It’ which features Vic Mensa, the talented Rap star and this is a cracking new track, one which brings the Future Bass and Rap sounds together once again, with the soothing bass sounds filtering in alongside the hard hitting vocals from Mensa. This is yet another quality piece of work.

All of this before the album ‘Skin’ was even released? Now that the album has dropped, and the teasers have been turned into full tracks, the album kicks off with ‘Helix’ which sets the tone as it builds and builds with the synths driving hard alongside the cool pan pipes which have been used. The way it builds is the perfect way to hint at the fact that Flume is building a journey and that ‘Skin’ is set to take you on a journey.

‘Pika’ is another stand out track on the album, it shows Flume’s creativity in the studio and his ability to create sounds which are out of the box, out of the ordinary and that he aspires to be more than the usual. The deep synth sounds, which have been blended together with cut up vocals is special, and the melodies are extremely catchy. This creativity and craftsmanship follows on with the likes of ‘When Everything Was New’ and ‘3’, both just bringing quality, cutting edge singles to the forefront of dance music.

And it wouldn’t be right to not mention the huge hit ‘Tiny Cities’ which rounds off the album, and is likely to be the next single from ‘Skin’, or ‘You Know’ which features Allan Kingdown and Raekwon which is another brilliant single. A lot of people have been saying album of the year… I wouldn’t disagree.

The quality, the different style and the creativeness which surrounds this album is superb. Flume is on fire and his world tour which is set t follow is sure to bring the same fire as the album. For more, check out the official site here.
