Event Review: Maceo Plex And Audio Obscura Go Big!

Maceo Plex and Audio Obscura produced an insane event at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for the Amsterdam Dance Event.

Amsterdam Dance Event is one of the biggest events in the dance music industry. The meeting place for all of the big players, the upcoming talents looking to better themselves and the overall place to be for all things dance music. This is what makes it so special, not to mention all the special events and memories that are made from the five day event.

Enter Maceo Plex and Audio Obscura. The latter have been behind some of the biggest and most obscure parties out there. From working with many industry players such as Sven Vath and Joris Voorn, as well as closely working with Maceo Plex on previous events, they have a renowned name for doing things big. Which is exactly what their party was over the ADE week. On Friday 21st October. Maceo Plex and Audio Obscura held an event which had never been done before, but they did it.

The Rijksmuseum in the middle of Amsterdam has a renowned Bicycle Tunnel. Hundreds of cyclists pass through this every day but on Friday past, it was closed down and the stage was set for some of the best Techno and underground sounds out there. From seven o’clock, the tunes began to play as around two thousand people descended on the Bicycle Tunnel to be met by some soothing underground sounds. Fango was the starting DJ for the crowd and he did not disappoint in delivering the tracks for those that had turned up before the eight o’clock deadline. Spinning on vinyl only, he managed to cut between tracks, before transferring over to the other effortlessly, while also bouncing about on the stage.

But all eyes were on Maceo Plex. This event had been hyped up as they knew the American was going to deliver one of his best sets, one which was fuelled by his passion for underground music, and that is what fans were treated to. Dropping his huge intro which just went down a bomb, it was track after track after track, pumping out the energy and letting the fans feed off the sounds which were streaming from the speakers. Any fan that wasn’t lucky enough to grab a ticket, could have tuned in online to listen to the antics. And like any other Maceo Plex set, it seemed to be fuelled with ID tracks, many obscure and many which may never see a release. The party went on until eleven o’clock, the crowd involved right down to the last minute, Maceo Plex and Audio Obscura smashed it. This is one of the highlights of Amsterdam Dance Event 2016.
