You may recognise the name due to his part of the duo Dzeko & Torres but this time, it’s a focus on the solo career of the Dzeko. The Toronto based artist has started out on his own and he has been on fire recently with some cool singles such as his latest ‘Heart Speak’. Having been supported heavily by Tiesto and his Musical Freedom label, Dzeko has been performing at numerous nights in Las Vegas as well as various other gigs, plus a lot more. It’s been a dream come true and he opens up about this support, and what is set to come ahead.

Taking things back to the start of your career and becoming involved in dance music, what was it that inspired you to launch Dzeko and pursue a music in a very competitive industry?

At the age of 10, I knew dance music was something I was very passionate about. Ever since then I have been Djing and producing for around 11 years now. My partner Torres and I got into it together about 9 years ago so it’s been quite the journey and a positive one. There will always be competition in every career, I actually think in the music industry were all here to help each other.  I am super appreciative of all the artists who have supported me, given me feedback along the way.

Now many of you may know you as part of the duo Dzeko & Torres. However, you have since launched a solo career and have released a slew of successive hits. How different is it for you to work as a solo artist, compared to a duo?

I was very nervous my first few gigs playing alone because I was always used to having Luis by my side. Luckily, I never really get stage fright anymore and I’m pumped about being a solo artist. It’s been going very well and I am really excited about the upcoming year. Torres and I have still been working together on music like we always did as Dzeko & Torres. Soon I will be releasing more songs that I very excited to share with my fans.

Over this time, you have been heavily supported by influential figures such as Tiësto. To have the support of a giant name like Tiësto’s, this must be a surreal feeling for you?

When I was 15, Tiësto was the reason I began to DJ. Tiësto was basically my dream mentor to have to support me and help me whenever I’ve needed it. I have always been a music enthusiast. He’s very driven and has the same passion I do for music. Tiësto has been guiding me on my path, helping me see my mistakes and giving me a sense of clarity. We learn from other people and model their behaviour. He has always served as a source of wisdom when I needed it
the most. And that is something I will always be grateful for.

And you have also been joining him at his massive Hakassan residency in Las Vegas. What’s it like to be perform in Las Vegas and is the scene there different to other locations you have performed at?

It was always a dream to play in Vegas. I went for the first time when I was about 16 for vacation. Now that I’m legally able to go out and have fun imagine how it feels being behind the booth seeing everyone share that experience with me. Of course, I wasn’t able to go into the top clubs yet, but it was always a dream of mine to play at one of them. Vegas is honestly one of my favorite places in the world to play. You really get to see what songs are big commercially whether it’s EDM or other kinds of genres. You also get to test new tracks and see what the reaction is because there are so many different people from some many different countries.

Your touring schedule has also been rather hectic over the Summer months. How difficult is touring and is there anywhere you would particularly like to perform at in the coming months?

I played a lot of Vegas dates this entire year. I also played in major cities such as New York, LA, Boston, Atlantic City, Toronto to name a few. Toronto is always a special place for me to play cause all friends I grew up with can join me to my shows. My 2018 touring schedule will be a little more global mainly because I really want to focus on sharing my new music with the world. I really love playing everywhere, to be honest!

On to the music and you have recently released your new track ‘Heart Speak’ which features TOKA J. Tell us a little about how the track came about? A vocalist is something which is rather in-demand at the moment for tracks. What was it like to work with TOKA J? How did you come to work with her?

This song means a lot to me. I’m extremely happy that Musical Freedom set up me up with such an unreal vocalist. There is one line in the song that I hope the crowd connects with me on, “In a million faces all I see, are reflections of what I can be, I can be so before you leave. I’m going to let my heart speak.”

Working with Musical Freedom, Tiësto’s label, must also be something special. What is it like to work with such a major label and would you say you have benefited from working with the label?

Musical Freedom has been an amazing label to be a part of. It was actually the first label Torres and I always had a goal to release a track on. We realised our biggest tracks are through them especially L’amour Toujours! I also released 4 other songs on the label this year.

Rounding off the interview, what can fans of Dzeko expect in terms of new music over the next few months?

In October I have two new songs coming out that I am super excited about. I also have a collaboration coming out too with Tiësto on his new Club Life compilation!! My fans can look forward to my new releases in the coming months!

And finally, is there anything else to look over for from Dzeko over the next few years? Do you have any big plans in store or any ambitions you hope to achieve?

Other than lots of new tracks, remixes and collaborations, I am also starting my own line of clothing, which is something I have never done before. Whether people look up to me for my music, my style or who I am as a person I want to incorporate my influence into my merchandise.
