It would be wrong not to say it. Some may agree, some may disagree. But in my opinion, one of the stand out artists of this year has to be Danny Howard. The BBC Radio One DJ and producer has simply smashed the underground dance music scene over the last twelve months with a series of big releases. And he looks to be finishing off the year in style with the release of his two track EP ‘Feel Real / Kid’.
As mentioned, the last twelve months has been huge for Danny Howard with a series of huge hitters released across a number of labels. In the last few months alone, he released the ‘Two Three One’ EP on Glasgow Underground, his ‘Extra Trippy’ EP on Toolroom Records and the ‘Work That / Holla’ EP on Food Music. And it is that latter label which he has landed on for his next two track EP. Danny Howard has delivered ‘Feel Real’ and ‘Kid’ on the label, and both tracks are set to dominate the sets of the major DJs.
The first track on the EP is ‘Feel Real’ and this is one of those storming Tech House tracks which provides the groove, provides the energy and feeds the addiction. With the intricate synth layers bouncing off each other, and filtering in alongside the bass line, it all comes together to bring about a solid production. Not only this, but the way in which Danny Howard has looped in the vocal sample, working it in with areas, taking it back out and then filtering it back in, it’s a track which is going to go down an absolute bomb on the dance floor. Big ups.
The second track on the EP comes as ‘Kid’ and this is just another solid release from the producer. Again, it feeds the addiction which you need and thrive off in terms of a Tech House track. Sketchy vocal samples come through alongside the deep bass line. The atmosphere is all about the energy. Big drums come through and work alongside the synths, and it has a tempo which just seems to tick along quite nicely. A very nice track indeed. Shadow Child steps up to produce the third track, remixing ‘Feel Real’ and he has changed the track with big percussion elements, womping melodies and a solid change in tone. A very cool remix.
