Dannic talks about the growth of his Fonk Recordings label and brand, as well as what is next for him as an artist.

If there is an artist out there who has went and created his own sound, done his own thing and loved exactly what he is doing, then it’s Dannic. Most know him for his association with Hardwell and Revealed Recordings, but he has made a name for himself, with his own tracks and with his own label. Fonk Recordings, which was launched around the time of Amsterdam Dance Event last year. He has been building up this label, and allowing new talents to come through and do what they want, by narrowing down a sound and sticking to it. Dannic got into the topic of his label right from the off.

It’s been exactly a year since Fonk Recordings was launched, it was ADE last year (2015).” claimed Dannic. “I’m super happy with the whole label thing. We had a sold out show last night in Amsterdam and with all the support that we had, we had over twelve DJs playing. I just want to give them an opportunity to play, for three of them it was their first gig other than their bedrooms. And that’s just amazing. Label wise, I’m really happy with what the label is about, the sound we are looking for. Like last year we the demo drop and it was Trap, Progressive House and other genres, but now it’s selected demos, the groovy tracks which we like”. It has become known for a particular sound, and it’s carrying out this in a very big way.

Fonk Recordings has been growing over the last year, with talented producers beginning to feature on the label on a regular basis. Not to mention the fact that Dannic has been releasing his own stuff on the label. You can begin to feel the family vibe around it. “Yeah that’s one of the reasons why I started. One was to focus on the Dannic sound, the groovy stuff which I couldn’t release on Revealed, not because Hardwell didn’t want to release it but to do something on my own. The other was to help the young guys working super hard in their studio and I didn’t have a platform to do that. I had the Dannic Selection EP on Revealed, but that’s just an EP every three months, and now I have the platform. A release every month and my full support.

As already mentioned, for three of the artists which performed at the Fonk Recordings Amsterdam showcase, it was their first ever show. In my eyes, that’s pretty insane. “To see the look on their faces when they played, it was just crazy” added Dannic. What I wanted to know though, did Dannic feel like he had to do this, as if it’s his duty to help out these young artists? “I just want to give something back, it sounds really corny but it’s true. Tiesto helped Hardwell a bit, Hardwell helped me get there. Obviously they have to do everything themselves, but I can show them to my fans and I can easily support them in getting their names out there.

So a lot is happening with regards to Fonk Recordings, in my opinion, it can only get bigger and better over the next few months and years. But it was on to Dannic himself, what did he as an artist have coming up in terms of new music and let’s just say, we can expect a lot. “I’m working my ass off in the studio right now. I just finished a solo track especially for Fonk Recordings and ADE. It’s actually my new intro, ‘Fonk It Up’, which was played in my set. That’s coming out next month or the end of the year. And besides that, I have a collaboration with Fedde Le Grand which I’m stoked about, as well as a lot of different types of music, to try and improve myself in the studio. Sometimes it’s good to think outside of the box.

Now there is a lot going on in the world of Dannic. Whether it be his Fonk Recordings shows, or working in the studio, as well as working with the label itself. For a DJ, you also have to tour and the Dutch star looks to have a lot of shows coming up soon.

I’m touring like crazy starting from November, in September I had some time off and now it’s all getting started again, so hopefully I’ll be touring world wide and see you guys soon. – Dannic

The reason we were all at Amsterdam was for the renowned Amsterdam Dance Event, the meeting place for everyone involved in dance music. Dannic reiterated how important it is for everyone involved within the scene. “It’s super important, for me this is the network event you need to be at if your in the dance industry. You can actually meet everyone, shake their hands instead of emailing or skyping each other. You can easily start collaborations, add contacts, it’s the event you need to be at.

And on a final note from Dannic, to round up what to expect in 2017, it was “a lot of new music and a lot of touring“. I cannot wait.
