This young starlet has been making big waves on the scene with a series of tracks and releases on the scenes biggest labels, it’s Thomas Newson. One of his latest tracks to be released was ‘Tonight’, a collaboration between himself and duo Magnificence arrived on Revealed Recordings, and what a hit it was for the scene. Now in one of our latest features, we go Behind The Scenes with the artist to chat about how the track came about, and the production process behind it.

Hi Thomas, thanks for taking time out to chat about your latest collaboration with Magnificence called ‘Tonight’, which is out now on Revealed Recordings. To kick things off, can you tell us how the collaboration came about?

I created the idea for the track and I was struggling with the sound design so I decided to collaborate with them because they know everything about mixing, sound design and mastering!

When you decided to collaborate, did you already have an idea of how you wanted the record to sound or did you decide to go into the studio and start something from scratch?

I started with the breakdown and some simple chords. After that I wrote the top melody of the track on the MIDI keyboard.

Can you tell us a bit about the production process of ‘Tonight’ and did you meet up in the studio or work online?

There’s a tutorial on the Revealed Facebook where Magnificence explains how the track was made so you should check it out!

The record perfectly sums up the typical Thomas Newson and Magnificence Big Room Progressive sound. Did you find it easy to merge your two styles and ideas together for the track?

I collaborated with them on three tracks so working with them is really easy and quick.

Alex Joseph’s stunning vocals feature on the track. How did your association with Alex come about and what do you look for in a vocalist when selecting one?

My publisher sent me a bunch of vocals with included this one – it was really outstanding.

The release of ‘Tonight’ sees the two of you make a return to Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings – what were you reasons for signing the record to the label?

I’ve worked closely with Revealed since the beginning of my career so that’s why I released the record with them.

‘Tonight’ first made its way onto the dancefloor well over a year ago. Was it difficult to keep your association with the track a secret and how long did it take to produce the track?

It took me one week to produce the idea with some basic sounds and stuff like that. I sent the project to Magnificence and they finished the track in three/four days – the track was born pretty fast.

How important do you think it is for artists to collaborate with each other?

It’s important to collaborate with others as it allows us artists to be more creative and gain influences from each other.

What does the rest of 2016 hold for Thomas Newson and could we see another collaboration in the near future?

I’m playing a lot in Asia now and working on new genres and collaborations with Kill The Buzz, Sick Individuals, as well as my solo projects!
