Italy has become a country renowned for churning out talented musicians in the world of the underground, but also the world of the more main room dance music. Talented artists have arrived with a whole lot of potential, and two duo’s who have been recognised for this are both Anderblast and Havoc & Lawn. Recently they teamed up together to produce ‘Genesi’ which was released on Size Records, so we sat them both down and asked them a series of questions in a special back to back interview.

Both duos, Anderblast and Havoc & Lawn, hail from Italy and both have been bustling on the scene recently with some high profile releases. How influential has Italy been as a country for both of you in terms of the music you produce?

Anderblast: Italy is a country where many young talented producers come out. there is a very productive movement, each with its different kind and style. Unfortunately, this is not the situation in Italian clubs, where art directors prefer to call “dancers” and “fashion bloggers” instead of giving importance to music.

H+L: Although we love Italy our music is not really always appreciated, there are some great Italian artist such as The Cube Guys or Federico Scavo that inspired us a lot but most of our inspiration comes from other countries.

You have just collaborated on the brand new track ‘Genesi’ which has arrived on Steve Angello’s Size Records. Tell us a little about how you guys met.

Anderblast: Our towns are quite close to each other. We contacted each other through Facebook to exchange promo and from there slowly was born a friendship that led us to find us in the studio to collaborate.

H+L: We sent an idea to Anderblast asking for a collaboration, they liked it and we started working together in their studio, it was easy since they live near us. The collaboration we started was not ‘Genesi’, we decide to start something new from scratch (from an Anderblast WhatsApp rec) and ‘Genesi’ it’s what came out.

In terms of the single, can you tell us a little about the background story about how the ideas came about and the production process behind the track?

Anderblast: We decided to collaborate together since we felt that our musical style could blend well with theirs. We live close to each other and we have worked together on various studio sessions. With Havoc & Lawn there was already a collaboration, but something was missing. So we started a new draft with a different style, using new instrument, completely different from the previous. That was finished with them. This is how ‘Genesi’ was born.

H+L: Generally, each one of us produces individually in our home studio, then we meet to complete the tracks that we have already started. We put together our ideas with the goal to create a track that fits with our genre and at the same time trying to be original and different from anyone else.

And what is it like to work with such major labels, especially the likes of Size Records?

Anderblast: Working for a label as Size Records is beautiful but also comes with great responsibilities. After this release, our audience is expecting more and more quality music from us. We’re working hard in the studio, on different tracks, we hope to release them shortly.

H+L: We were glad and honored to work with Size Records, they are great professionals and which is very important, we don’t take for granted to work with such high level and professionals teams.

I’ve mentioned influence in terms of your country and the dance music scene within it, but does Anderblast have a different influence to Havoc & Lawn? What would your key influences be?

Anderblast: We always like to experience new things in the studio. New tools, libraries and software. Lately we have come back to listen and love the music with which we started this job. From house to techno. it’s a world that fascinates us a lot in this last period.

H+L: Our background is very different, Anderblast are more electronic EDM and we define us more tech and underground but we tried to combine both our sounds to make something very different and special that no one has heard before.

Can we expect new music from both Anderblast and Havoc & Lawn in the future? Maybe a new collaboration?

Anderblast: Of course! we would love to create something new with the guys!

H+L: For sure, we are not only collaborators but friends so we will definitely create something together in the future.

Finally, what are the aims of both Anderblast and Havoc & Lawn over the next few years? Is there an achievement you both hope to achieve?

Anderblast: Our goal is to improve day after day in our work. The music is what we love to do. Get into clubs or festivals, with our music, around the world, dancing and having fun thousands of people is something special we can’t explain.

H+L: Our main goal is to continue creating high quality music that we love, and grow with our releases and DJ sets around the globe.
